This paper will provide some insight into the history of mergers and acquisitions; it will
also dive into the Comcast acquisition of NBC Universal from General Electric. The paper will
touch on the circumstances surrounding the acquisition, it will also provide information on the
effects of the acquisition, and finally it will give some information on the organizations structure.
This acquisition was slightly different than a many acquisitions since Comcast had already
purchased 51 percent of NBC Universal in 2011. Comcast was seeking a holistic organization
and decided to go all-in with NBC Universal at an accelerated pace.
There is a great deal of history in mergers and acquisitions; they have been taking place
since the early 1900’s[ CITATION Eco10 \l 1033 ]. Mergers and acquisitions occur for many
reasons and there are a number of ways they can be accomplished. Understanding what makes
an organization successful or unsuccessful can help one understand why companies merge or are
