MERCOSUR Region Impressions
Festivals, siestas, and do it manana had been my impression of most Latin American
countries and would include Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. I envisioned one large culture that
worked in order to be able to play and was also strongly influenced by family tradition and
religious heritage. However, after watching the video, it was interesting to learn that these
countries, in fact are thriving capital markets that are working very hard to become players in the
international markets and grow their economies. The most interesting fact for me was that these
countries do not identify as a Latin America entity and in fact have very strong and independent
cultures and identities (Ball, 2013).
