Is private-sector Medicare becoming a monopoly?
Have you ever heard of Herfindahl-Hirschman Index or HHI? The HHI is a
statistical method for evaluating whether a market for goods of services is highly
concentrated, moderately concentrated or non-concentrated. Recently it was shown that
medicare is offered in over 2,900 counties and has taken over the healthcare market in
97% of those markets. The HHI then took a deeper look into this and reviewed 100
different U.S counties and out of that 81 of those 100 were highly concentrated with
medicare advantage, 18 were moderately and 1 single county was non-concentrated
and that was in Riverside, CA.
