Medical Terminology Components
Medical terms are constructed using the component parts prefix,
root word, combining form, and suffix. A prefix is added to the
beginning of a word and suffix is found at the end the word. N
Prefixes and suffixes can be either or one syllable or a group of
syllables. When using the component parts to understand a
medical term,you should begin with the meaning of the suffix.
Every medica term has a root word or combining form that is the
foundation form which other words are constructed. The root word
or combining form expresses the main meaning of the word. A
prefix, suffix, or both are added to the root word to construct a
modified term. When a vowel is added to root word, it becomes a
combining form. The vowel links root word to the suffix or even
another root word.
