Exploring Federalism: What Do You Think?
Assignment
A. The list of government departments that I think can best fit the primary responsibilities for
common pubic service are: Health and human service department, Defense Department,
Department of Labor, Department of Education, Department of Homeland Security, and
Department of Justice.
B. The noteworthy cases that I believe to be of contemporary relevance to my life or to society
with a scale of 1 to 5 (one (1) is critically important and five (5) is insignificant) are:
1) 1973: Roe v Wade, this case significant to both my personal life and to society. In this
era, some states are pressing the issue of making it illegal to get an abortion and any
form of contraceptives, which infringes on the women’s “right of privacy”.
2) 1803: Marbury v Madison, this case is primitive today’s society because it enforces no
special treatment for government officials, who abuse their power.
3) 1997: Printz v United States, this case needs to be revisited, because of the effect it has
in today’s society. Today gun violence is at all-time high, I feel as if there need to be
