What role does critical reflection play in defining problems?
Critical reflection is a process that applies reasoning to an experience, challenge, question, or
problem. It is analytical and critical to the challenge at hand. The process adds a layer or
questioning, applying experience or viewpoints. It helps build a bridge between the content and
relatable experience. When we use critical reflection to define a problem, a critical reflection is
applied to support or contradict it. It should be carefully designed to help generate active
perspectives and viewpoints. When you apply critical reflection to a problem, it helps delve more
into the problem at hand than a vague issue. It gives the problem meaning and can generate a
viable solution. “It enables them to correct distortions in their beliefs and errors in their problem
solving and also make meaning of their learning.” Critical reflection gives you the additional
depth to a problem.
How will you review your learning and prescription to your wicked-problem?
The very definition of a wicked problem is that it’s a problem that is difficult or impossible to
solve due to its difficulty to recognize its true meaning. I would review the wicked problem from
a di+erent angle, asking questions that could help define the question further. often times, the
problem itself is vague or broad in nature. A possible angle would be from upper management
or from a coworker. Allowing other individuals to shed some light on the problem will help
define the problem further, offer additional insight to the “real” issue at hand, and generate
solutions. A wicked problem can be solved more efficiently with other perspectives and critical
