Emerging adulthood refers to the period of post-adolescent development that occurs
roughly between the ages of 18 to 28. During this phase, the part of the brain that maintains
impulse control, problem-solving, and planning continues to develop. As a result, emerging
adults are likely to engage in reckless behaviors and make life-altering decisions at the spur of
the moment, placing themselves into situations which they are unprepared to handle. They also
tend to be ego-centric and less likely to be concerned about the needs of others. This limited
perspective of the world can make them vulnerable to the slick persuasive tactics of certain
groups which prey upon the naiveté of emerging adults to forward a political agenda that
