Life is Unusual
Life has its unexpected turns and in that case we choose the way to handle and steer
those turns. There are things we see and experience that can change our whole outlook on
life. Before we see what life is really like we have the stage of innocence. This is usually
when we are children and don’t know any better. In this stage of our lives what game and
what crayon you are going to choose is what matters. Then comes reality and that’s when
growing up is a means of facing all the true colors of life. The short story “Flowers” by Alice
Walker is a story that shows the loss of innocence. This short story wasn’t lengthy however it
had much meaning. Reading it was shocking and what happens was not expected. Stories can
create an close connection between us the readers and author. Literature taps the emotion of
us readers on a conscious and sub-conscious level. It’s also mirrors life because it is a
window into the many realities of altered people who live in different worlds. Literature is
the mirror of life, because it reflects the things people encounter in their daily lives.
Innocence is something we all carry in our time being and the way we lose it is what
makes us who we are in a way. We are all born to die but we don’t all know that as children.
It’s something we progressively learn to accept once we are older. In this short story, the life
of Myob changes vastly just by discovering a sight she wasn’t expecting. Literature always
somehow throws a jab at you especially with “Flowers” because reading it; Readers would
not expect what she comes across. Walker started us off with a happy beginning and with that
she wants to portray to the readers how life has its ups and there are times when things are
