Marriages Then & Now
How many of you would like for your parents to choose your spouse for you? Ladies,
would you be comfortable in marrying a man that you didn’t choose to be with and just
becoming a housewife? Then having to live with your spouse even if you’re unhappy. Well in
the 1960’s and before then, many marriages were arranged. Parents would choose their
children’s spouses based on family connections or social statuses. Parents wanted their children
to marry their best friend’s children or marry for wealth for it would give the parents a sense of
relief knowing their children were taken care of financially. Imagine you marrying someone you
have absolutely no chemistry with? Fast forward today, they’re many ways to find a significant
other. You can meet that special someone in your school, your workplace, mutual friends, or
even by online. And the best of all that, is you won’t have to worry about who your mother or
father has chosen for you marry. How many can agree?
Women back then married at a young age and became housewives. They wouldn’t get
an education and became dependent on their husbands because they had to stay home and
take care of the children. They would have to have the dinner ready for the husband by the
time he got home and the home all swept and cleaned too. Although, I know being a housewife
