1. Product
M&S has been providing a wide range of food and drinks, specialized in upscale products.
In 2012, they launched ‘Simply M&S’, a budget-brand range of everyday food products.
Complimenting the firm’s existing luxury food lines, the ‘Simply M&S’ range features 700
new and current lines including fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, eggs, milk and store
cupboard ingredients. In 2013, they brought 1,900 new lines, refreshing 25% of the entire
range.
M&S underscores delivering responsibly sourced, quality produce. They claimed to have
reduced the amount of additives and there are no artificial colorings or flavorings. All its
beef, pork, salmon, poultry and in-season lamb is sourced from the UK and the Republic
of Ireland. All Simply M&S eggs are free range, bacon is British and all tea and coffee is
Fairtrade
M&S is also providing market with innovative product development and exclusive ranges,
providing a variety of international recipe dishes. In 2013, they introduced the launch of
España – the high street’s first range of contemporary Spanish cuisine as well as a new
Modern Asian range. Its product developers are responding to the latest restaurant trends,
with a number of high street firsts.
2. Price
Traditionally, M&S was focused on quality rather than value for price. However, since
launching ‘Simply M&S’, the firm has been highlighting “quality at great value”.
