o Market Overview
Crop Guard Research Inc (CGRI) allowed Tyler Henry to evaluate CGRI’s market strategy.
The market CGRI exists in is private research as a neutral third-party to conduct the research.
The research is done for the company’s data collection as well as to report to the data to the
E.P.A. for consumer safety.
CGRI is a service based industry. What they are trying to market is a high-quality
standard of attention to detail. What they do is conduct the company’s research protocols on
various agricultural products and see the whole project through to completion. Within any given
protocol is a series of treatments and procedures that CGRI is responsible for. These protocols
include steps and rules on everything CGRI should do and how they should do it from accepting
the contract all the way until we send our last piece of data and are finished with that contract.
This research takes months to conduct, being as it takes at minimal the amount of time to plant
a seed and it be ready for harvesting. Planting genetically modified crops, as well as applying a
variety of test substances to different research plots at a specified rate are other common tasks
performed by CGRI.
The farm where the research is done only has limited space to make room for each
company, and limited time in the day to apply treatments to the different crops. These
protocols require professional, educated people to go great lengths to ensure all the work is
being done.
