Situation Analysis (Refer to figures 2-5 in Appendix)
Prospective students include international students and if there are issues in their home
countries that may be addressed in the GCP, these students can create a more diverse and
beneficial environment for Cornell. However, prospective students may also be deterred by a
new program that may not fit their interests. The GCP strives to address real word problems, but
some prospective students may be more concerned about their individual development through
different Dyson classes. The prospective student target market also offers the opportunity to
expand global recruitment. Cornell unfortunately is not the only university with a GCP and a
specific threat is Princeton University due to its shared Ivy League status and an established
GCP(“Grand Challenges Princeton University”).
The admitted students target market represents a group of students committed to Cornell
and the mission of the GCP. Due to their commitment to Cornell, they have the potential to
recruit other students to join them in working in the program. Furthermore, students who have
partaken in similar programs, such as the ESS program, and service trips in the past may be
interested.
