Abstract
It has been scientifically proven that marijuana has several medical benefits that can
serve to help people cope with illness such as decrease anxiety and help with sleeping
disturbs. Previously, marijuana used to be legal and present in peoples life similarly as
alcohol in this day. It is still a huge debate now about being legalized.
People with cancer on chemotherapy treatment frequently have a lot of pain, nausea and
vomiting symptoms. The American Cancer Society believes that marijuana helps relieve
pain and also acts on control of nausea and vomiting. In addition, as it increases appetite,
it can help people with bulimia due to stimulation of hunger.
Legalizing marijuana can be the best way to control how it can be used and how it can
be distributed. For example, in the 20’s with the Prohibition, alcohol became illegal and
the only way to get it was in the black market. It actually increased a lot of the organized
crime.
Again, marijuana makes you take things slowly and happy and it’s illegal in many
places. On the other hand, alcohol leads to drunk driving accidents, deaths, fatal injuries
and it’s legal.
It’s hard to point out a single point that explains why some specifics drugs like alcohol,
marijuana or cocaine used to be legal and somehow became illegal without a real reason
besides the liberal’s interests.
All things considered, we can say that marijuana has a good effect in people’s lives
while improving their quality of life. Even though it has a side effect, we experience in
the past that prohibition may not be the best way to deal with it. Finally we can conclude
that legalization would be the best option.
