Managing Relationship Paper
The relationship up for discussion in this research is a friend-based relationship, that of
team B, consisting of Karima Kibble and Lisa Key. The research will consist of how and
when the individuals met, development of the relationship, expectancies of the
relationship, and the various stages of progress the relationship has come. Research will
indicate the level of mutual respect for diversity and caring that each individual has for the
other. The start of the relationship began January 2010 and was the result of two adult
students returning to school to further individual dreams and education. The stage of the
relationship is adult friendships. The development of the relationship began after meeting
during classes and both individuals noting that the other was in possession of a level of
dedication to focusing on and achieving high marks of excellence concerning participation
and grades. Karima and Lisa possess many similar qualities, diversities, and this is what
makes these individuals a dynamic duo.
One Factor for Short Term and & Long Term
The short term attraction came through proximity and physical appearance; the observance
of both individuals noting the others arrival to class on time and attention to class
facilitator. Through many classes and observations the individuals sought out learning
team members who had similar levels of dedication and had a desire to acquire as much
knowledge as possible. Inevitably, both were on the same team. Similar vocabularies and
diverse life’s experiences made the duo highly compatible.
Long and short-term attraction for becoming teammates and friends are the result of many
past productive learning team assignments. Observing many nonverbal cues left each
individual with the knowledge that both were on similar levels concerning aspirations from
education and future endeavors; these qualities lead the individuals to want to reside on the
same team. Each member amassed information and took an open approach to persuading
the other individual in the value both may acquire as teammates; this is an example of
self-disclosure. One determining factor is each individual has a level of respect and does
not wish to let their fellow team mate down. Throughout the past two years these
individuals have come to value and respect each other’s point of view and have insight into
the diversities concerning work-related ethics, cultural differences, and have made a
conscious effort to learn and grow from the affiliation. The long-term aspect of the
