Week 2 Assignment
Times were different before the legislation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The United States
operated under “JIM Crow Laws” which at the time was a legalized form for racial segregation
which predominantly targeted African Americans (blacks) as a lower-class human being. In
those times freedom was but a myth to anyone who was not part of a specific class, those
individuals would experience some form of discrimination whether it be by age, race, national
origin, the color of skin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, and disability. The civil
right act and specifically Title VII was put together to address most of this issue affecting
citizens in terms of employment which brought us to current times where laws are more refined
and specific.
