organization that have the potential to affect the
organization. Example: competitors, resources,

2. International Dimension
Portion of the external environment that represents
events originating in foreign countries as well as
opportunities for U.S.companies in other countries.
3. Environmental Uncertainty
means managers do not have sufficient information
about environmental factors to understand and
predict environmental needs and changes
4. Boundary-Spanning Roles: coordinating the
organization with key elements in the external
environment
5. The Internal Environment: Corporate Culture
The set of key values, beliefs, understandings, and
norms that members of an organization share.
6. Visible Manifestations
1.Ethics is the code of moral principles and values
that govern the behaviors of a person or group with
respect to what is right or wrong

• A situation that arises when all alternative choices
or behaviors have been deemed undesirable

company’s values concerning ethics and social

Ethical structures: represent the various systems,
positions, and programs a company can undertake
to implement ethical behavior
Whistle-Blowing: the disclosure by an employee
of illegal, immoral, or illegitimate practices by the
organization
CHAPTER 7+8: Planning and Goal Setting
• Goal – A desired future state that the organization
attempts to realize
• Plan – A blueprint specifying the resource
allocations, schedules, and other actions necessary
for attaining goals
