SUMMARY OF LEARNING AND WORKING IN TEAMS
Teams were considered the most significant element for the accomplishment of goals, but it is important
to get good at teamwork on the fly rather than teamwork in stable, familiar teams. It is essential for the
organisation to provide opportunities to the employees to take risk, confront mistakes and cross
boundaries. I would make sure that each member in my team is able to bring his best to the table by
getting up to speed and I’ll do that by asking the three vital questions: –
• What are you hoping to achieve?
• What knowledge and background do you bring?
• What obstacles do you face?
Another factor that is crucial for success is the leadership, but both “big” and “small” leadership should be
given equal value as decisions are made by the big L that influence the whole organisation whereas small L
is about creating the conditions to help make complex, interdependent work get done. In an organisation
attention should be equally given to both forms of “L” by setting objectives for both separately.
The thing that should be kept in mind while taking any step is that “failures are inevitable” and the real
failure is only when we fail to learn from it. I would always keep it mind that the fear of failure should not
lead to interpersonal risks by providing them psychological safety which reduces interpersonal risks and
matters more when work is complex, uncertain and interdependent.
I would achieve this psychological safety through three major steps: –
• By framing it as a learning challenge i.e. making sure that the focus is not more than the execution
• By acknowledging my own fallibility i.e. showing them that I am not perfect as well and accepting
mistakes which will display humility thus will give confidence to more people to speak up.
• By asking questions i.e. after everything asking a follow up questions that’ll show curiosity which
will help in more involvement from others.
As we know failures are inevitable, we should keep in mind that small failures are important part of
journey towards success and understanding that all failures are not created equal. So, if in the end we do
not reach our goal we should do reframing which involves three steps: –
psychological safety are considered together, and no one is at stake for the other.
