Observation Paper
People watching is a familiar figure; it is natural for us to do so as a social species. That
being said, if you are an author, it can spell the difference between bland, undecorated prose and
captivating descriptions. Being a careful observer of individuals provides you with an insightful
view of human behavior, whether you are a fiction writer figuring out a realistic personality or a
nonfiction writer trying to describe something in a relatable way. The great spots to observe
humans have likely always been shops and stores and markets, coasts and town squares, and
everywhere else where people meet to perform the fundamental realities of life: trade, traveling,
and relaxation; wherever they are ignorant and unconcerned. That’s why hubs and shopping
centers are ideal places to observe a wide range of people.
