Memo
TO: Dr. Lippman, Research Scientist
FROM: Haley Jett, Section Manager HJ
DATE: September 5, 2017
SUBJECT: Reminder of the Procedure for Handling Sensitive Documents
I received a file from your lab containing top-secret documents and gum wrappers with scribbled
diagrams. Do know that this is considered a security breach and can have severe consequences. I
am not sure how these files were missed by you and your secretary, but I will have these
documents immediately burned to correct this indiscretion. If this incident reoccurs, I will be
forced to report it to my supervisor.
Here are the procedures for handling top-secret files at the end of a work day:
Lock them in your lab file safe
Shred them
Place them in the designated waste bag to be burned
Please review these procedures with your secretary. I also advise you to reexamine MCI’s
protocol for handling security breaches.
If you prefer that I be present when you discuss this situation with Daiyu Tan, call me or see me
in person to set up a meeting time. Please contact me if you have any questions.
