Maitreyi
On page 28, Maitreyi asks Yajnavalkya “’If I were to possess the entire world filled with
wealth, sir, would that make me immortal?’” to which Yajnavalkya responds basically saying no,
one cannot acquire immortality through the likes of wealth and that wealth would only allow a
person to live the life of a wealthy person and nothing more. Yajnavalkya proceeds to say, “One
holds a husband dear, you see, not out of love for the husband; rather it is out of love for oneself”
(28). A few more examples he used to make his point were “One holds children dear not out of
