Macronutrients and Micronutrients (2017FL) – META
December 4, 2017
Macronutrients and Micronutrients are what our bodies need to function daily.
Macronutrients, restore energy essential for proper body functioning they include fats,
carbohydrates, and proteins. Micronutrients, are the vitamins and minerals that are key
factors for equilibrium in metabolic pathways. For my topic of research, I have decided
to find if the right macronutrients and micronutrients are consumed will it influence
cholesterol levels. Satins are among the biggest-selling and most prescribed medicines
in the world, but they can come with some risk. Can good nutrition be a factor to
naturally lower Blood Cholesterol Levels with a focus on lowering the low-density
lipoproteins (LDL). A quick google search found over one million links related to
nutrition and cholesterol reduction. My goal is to find out if there is real research on this
subject showing LDL levels can be lowered by dietary supplementation with nutrients.
This topic was important to me because Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues
to be the number one cause of death in the United States even with abundant efforts to
reduce its pervasiveness. As we get older high cholesterol becomes an issue with most
average people in American society and decreasing LDL levels for CVD prevention is a
must. I feel very strongly that Satins are a double edge sword where they can do as
much harm as help. Using good nutrition to avoid the use of pharmaceuticals should be
the goal of everyone.
I performed my research by reading many studies in peer journals and the
websites that cited the such studies on their webpages; I learned there are a very large
number of articles on the subject of nutrition to naturally lower your total cholesterol
levels especially the total cholesterol:LDL ratio. There are studies that use diets
consisting of a not a specific macronutrient, but use a percentage range of fats and
saturated fats such as AAH Step I (30% fats and 9% SFA) and Step II (25% fats and 6%
SFA’s). The Average American diet is not good with most diets containing very high is
fats and SFA’s. The studies also documented that when obese or even overweight
