Review Questions
1. Distinguish between withdrawal and consumption of water.
a. Water withdrawal is the amount of water taken from the source and consumption
of water is the amount of water incorporated into a product.
2. What are the similarities between domestic and industrial water use? How are they
different from in-stream use?
a. The similarities between domestic and industrial water use are that they both use
water to get rid of waste. They also have to maintain a certain amount of water at
all times. The differences between the two and in-stream use are that in-stream
doesn’t consume water and doesn’t add any water products to it.
Critical Thinking
1. Leakage from freshwater distribution systems accounts for significant losses. Is water so
valuable that governments should require systems that minimize leakage to preserve the
resource? Under what conditions would you change your evaluation?
a. I think fresh water is extremely valuable however if the government fixes the
issue of the low amounts of available freshwater resources. That way they don’t
even have to go into establishing laws to preserve ones with little promise.
