Love Embraced
Michael Jackson once said, “You never know how long you have with
someone, so don’t forget to say I love you while you can.” Being in love is such an
ineffable sensation that one could experience. In every possible chance, it is very
important to express how much a person loves someone, so that their significant other
would always be aware of how special they are. Although there is no exact guarantee
that the one a person’s currently in love with is fithe one’, it is imperative to just
embrace love while it happens and live in the moment. Robert Burns glorified the
notion of fiperfect love’ and espouses the significance of expressing love through his
famous poem “My love is like a red, red rose”. The narrator endeavors to express the
extent of his love by incorporating romanticized similes as well as hyperbolized
natural imageries of events that most likely won’t occur.
The poem opens with vivid visual and olfactory imageries, “Oh, my love is
like a red, red rose, That’s newly sprung in June;” It immediately evokes a beautiful
visualization of roses on a wonderful summer day on the mind of the readers. In these
lines, the narrator uses a simile to either compare the love he has or his actual lover to
a red, red rose. Red is the universal symbol of love, and a rose is also often associated
with love as well as beauty. The repetition fired, red rose’, which is also used in the
title, plays an essential role in the poem. By repeating the word red twice, the narrator
is reinforcing what he is saying and proclaiming his seriousness. He wants his lover to
know that he is deeply in love with her. This could be supported by the next line,

“That’s newly spring in June;”, which gives an indication that the love he is
experiencing is new and fresh. Normally, couples that are still in the initial stages of a
relationship or the fihoneymoon phase’ are most likely still experiencing the joyful
phases where everything seems perfect and nothing could go wrong. This explains the
narrator’s exaggerated tone, since he is still in the high points of admiration. Since
their love had just recently sprung, the narrator doesn’t waste any time in not
communicating his emotions towards his lover.
A simile is applied again in lines ”My love is like the melody, That’s sweetly
played in tune.” Here he compares his love or lover to a sweet melody, creating a nice
auditory imagery. A melody that is sweet is pleasant to the ears and has the ability to
make people feel great, which means the narrator is saying that the love he has for this
