The Discoveries of Louis Pasteur
The discovery of germs should be found by the medical community, yet it was
discovered by chemist Louis Pasteur. Pasteur urged that all doctors wash their hands and boil
their instruments so that all the microbes could be destroyed. Pasteur believed that most of the
women dying of labor was because of the ignorant doctors using dirty instruments and filthy
hands. The emperor sent for Pasteur so that he could show him a germ. Dr. Charbonnet abolished
his theory while Martell seemed to somewhat believed Pasteur.
10 years later there was a Black plague; it was brought to the attention of the new
president that only in Arbois it was not affected by the plague. Martell was sent so find out the
reason the animals in that area were not dying. Pasteur explain to the Dr. that the sheep were
being injected with vaccine from the germ that caused anthrax. Martell still interested in
Pasteur’s theory decided to stay and learn about the vaccine. Pasteur explains how the spores get
into the blood of the animals, which are found in the soil and grass where the sick animals died.
To resist the plague is with the vaccine he created. Pasteur opponent Dr. Charbonnet continues to
challenge him and proposes an experiment that includes 50 healthy sheep and infecting them
with anthrax, vaccinating 25 and 25 not vaccinated. Pasteur insist the sheep that were not treated
by him will die in less than 48 hrs. As Pasteur predicted his sheep were healthy and alive.
After proving his vaccine effective. Dr. Lester seeks his help in regards the cause of
rabies. Pasteur explains that his experiments show that there is a microbe that causes the disease.
Pasteur is determine to find a cure. Dr. Charbonnet from the Academy of medicine defies Pasteur
and decides to self inject himself with hydrophobia. He did it to contradict Pasteur and discredit
his theory regarding hydrophobia. However, the germ he injected himself with was 14 days’ old
which made the germ weak. Pasteur is approached by another DR. with a young boy whom was
infected with rabies. Pasteur injected him multiple times. Pasteurs daughter Annett is going into
labor. Dr. Charbonnet will help, but Pasteur wants him to boil the instruments before using them
