“Living in The Modern World of Technology”
In the preamble to the New Harper edition of Brave New World, Huxley states its subject as “the
advancement of science as it a ects human individuals.” Over the last ten years, we have experienced
magni$cent progress in science and technology. Since 1900, the progress made in science and
technology has dominated the development formed throughout any past hundred-year stretch.
However, Huxley understood that these upgrades also came with trouble as the people had constructed
the world more sophisticated than what they could handle. Huxley’s Brave New World serves as a
warning to make people understand that since knowledge is a privilege, he who reigns and uses
knowledge wields the privilege. Science and technology should be the operatives of people in the sense
that people should not be modi$ed and oppressed to them. Brave New World is a summary of our lives
as they could be if our current desires continue according to the sciences eugenics and psychology, as
well as economics and mechanics. We live in the world where the practice of technology is progressive at
full tilt speed. Playing video games and using smartphones to stay connected to social networks,
technology becomes a part of everyday life. If you feel like you are entangled in a world of bits and bytes
that seems to be beaming you away from the world you knew, away from a place of comfort, know that
you are not alone. This is life in the 21st century. But is technology in control? Technology is a tool and
nothing more. The olden days of the world unmistakably mentioned the exaggeration of technology, and
it is obvious in regards to who took advantage of the technologies of their time, from the $rst humans
who created $re for warmth and food to modern times. Did the maneuvers of indigenous Mesopotamia
rule the people? How about the use of iron in indigenous Greece and Rome? Let’s not forget the
airplane, telephone, electricity, and the steam engine. Has any technology ever truly ruled over any
people? The answer is an unquestionable “no.” People rule technology. If modern people o ered no

innovation in regards to the technologies of our time, those technologies would supervene the route of
the kerosene lamp. It is no surprise that most of the technologies of the past ultimately retired to purely
sentimental use. Would you be delighted to have horses and buggies back in the movement of tra8c on
your local freeway? Would you propose that we still retrieve water from a hand pump? I will propose
that the answer is “no.”
People rule technology period, it’s that straigh9orward if our modern people originate no
productiveness in the technologies of our pace, suddenly those technologies would supervene the route
of the kerosene lamp. It’s no contingency that the products of the bygone ultimately whichever develop
