Most glaciers in the Northern Hemisphere today are receding quickly. Since only 3% of
the world’s water is freshwater, it would be difficult to accommodate everyone’s natural
resources. A continuance in the increase of the human population, and rapidly decreasing
of the icial glaciers will result in a major freshwater shortage within in the near future. But
the problem is actually occurring throughout many of the glaciers in the world. After these
glaciers melt, it causes an increase in the sea water level. The main reason for the melting
of these large ice glaciers however, is the burning of fossil fuels for the use of energy. This
in turn has many negative connotations on Earth, such as a shortage in the fresh water
supply and rise in sea level. In addition, as the sea level continues to rise, it affects species
and habitats that reside net coastal areas by altering their ability to survive due to the
change in the environment. Individuals have taken initiative in an effort to reduce the
consequences of the effects, but they haven’t had much success. Global warming today is a
concern for the future of our planet and mankind as a whole. Glacier melting will continue
to rise and the consequences on top of it are slowly going to become much more serious if
we do not find ways for these consequences to be mitigated and dealt with.
As the global temperature is continuing to increase due to global warming, ice glaciers are
going to melt even faster. For example, in places across the North Pole and Scotland, small
glaciers that were present a couple decades ago are vanished today. According to recent
studies, ice glaciers are able to absorb 80% of the heat from the sun and deflect only 20%.
One of the consequences of the melting of icebergs today is the shortage of fresh water.
This leads to many severe consequences. For example, it can cause conflicts within
countries regarding the shortage in the water supply in the long term. This can actually
turn into reality because more than half of Earth’s fresh water are within the ice glaciers.
However, the main problem occurs when glaciers begin to melt and the fresh water
contained inside starts to mix with the salt in the ocean. This in turn decreases the fresh
water supply and contributes to the rise in sea level sequentially. This is a major problem
