“Lion” A Search History For Himself
Lion is not a safari movie. To find out the reason for the title, you need to go
to the end of the movie. You will not see any lion in the course of history, but you will
see a search story. It is a seeking for inner peace, for happiness and for meaning. The
story shows some important topics, for example, adoption, poverty, child exploitation,
parental love, and self-identity.
The movie begins when little Saroo, a five years old Indian boy decides to insist
on his older brother, Guddu, to go with him to look for a job. Thus, Guddu takes him on
his bike to the city. Saroo is left at the station by his brother to sleep: “You stay here,
and wait for me!”. But upon awakening and realizing that he is alone, Saroo goes in
search for his brother. Fate then decides to intervene in the little boy´s life, taking him
many miles from his home, his family and his culture. Saroo slept in a train that went to
Calcutta and the boy had to face the adversities of the city, not knowing where he came
from or even his mother's name. Saroo is impressively charismatic. He is able to
transmit by his eyes the desperation that is to be alone at the age of five, in a place
where people don´t speak your language. After going through many difficulties, the
little boy will stop at an orphanage.
Saroo was adopted by an Australian family that will fill him with love. And he
will not be the only one to be adopted: Matosh will also be welcomed with the same
love by the same family, but he brings serious traumas from a violent and desolate
childhood; and becomes a troubled adult. The movie shows the technology helped to
find his real family twenty-five years later. Saroo's adoptive parents: Sue and John
Brierley could have natural children, but they decided it would be better if they could
give the chance to children who would most likely has their lives changed through
adoption.
What I like about the movie is that remembered me that kindness, love,
