A Life of a Volunteer
Helping poor people (volunteering) has been one of the most important accomplishments
in my life. I was born In Cameroon (Africa). According to the Internationalmedicacorps,
about half of the population of Cameroon lives below Poverty line. There are many ways
that extreme poverty can affect the life of people who live in poverty. In a country like
Cameroon, Some people lack of immediate basic needs such as food and water, clothing,
shelter, sanitation. This is why I have dedicated most of my life volunteering for my local
church in Yaound (Cameroon). Every Saturday We went around the city providing food
and water to homeless people. Without this help many of the people we helped would have
simply not survived.
While some people in Cameroon lack of food and water, other lack other basic element of
living such as clothing. Wearing cloths is important for many reasons: One of the most
important being protecting our dignity. Beside the protection of our dignity, wearing cloths
also protect us from adversities such as cold weather. Nowadays in Cameroon many
indigenous population still cannot afford to provide themselves even with the cheapest
clothing available. The church I was a member of had countless trips in the remote area of
Cameroon in order to provide indigenous population with cloths that were collected during
donation sessions that we organized during the year. Even though our means were limited,
