Freedom of expression is a basic right granted to all citizens of the United States, right?
Some have come to find this statement wrong. If one does not fit into the cookie-cutter mold of
what society has deemed the ideal type, that person is not allowed to practice. If one’s race has
“a habit of performing a certain way” or doing certain things, that individual is also not allowed
to practice. And surprisingly enough, if an individual works hard day in and day out to reach the
platform to make a difference in social and political issues (ie. a professional athlete), seems
even then, that person is not allowed to practice this basic human right. Now, the term “allowed”
is being used loosely here, with allowed and not allowed being subsequently translated to
meaning socially permissible and socially impermissible. Minorities and the democracy
associated with them and their varying forms of freedom of expression is a modern yet effective
