Letters to NT Churches Essay
In the letter of John 1, what was addressed most that is relevant today is the false
teachings. I believe false teachings are very true today as they were in the times of the early
Christian church. As the stories of Jesus have been changed throughout generations so has the
teachings. Some false teachings that are present today are those who use Christianity as a
means for personal gain. Then there are other teachers who will add and change the meaning
of the Christian faith. For example, Joseph Smith, the founder of Mormonism was considered a
prophet of his own. His teachings were different from that of the bible however he declared he
encountered God and Jesus. According to my partner in this assignment Nicholas Smith “In
turn, the religion Joseph Smith started, and the book of Mormon is very different from the
bible, and some would consider him a false teacher. I think the parallel situations of today are
the same as stated above. There are false teachings today as there was back in the historical
world. People will use the teachings of Christianity for their own personal gain. Mix and
change the teachings of Christianity as how they see it to be rather than how the teachings are
historical world.
