Module 2
Lesson 1. Classroom Management Skills and Styles
Lesson 2. Enriching the Teaching and Learning Experiences
Lesson 3. Communication Skills: Enhancement with Buddy and Mentor.
Module 2 Target Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this module, you shall be able to:
describe learners’ motivation to learn;
distinguish intrinsic from extrinsic motivation;
make a dimension of learners’ motivation through students’
perspectives through writing a lesson plan;
describe teacher’s approaches to motivate learners;
conduct interview on school program and activities that motivates
students,
present the list some school programs for the students to be motivated
through making an intervention plan;
describe the role of parents in learner’s motivation;
conduct an interview to the parents on they motivate the child to learn,
and
enumerate some activities parents do to motivate their child to learn
through making a brochure.
Introduction
Welcome to Lesson 1. In this lesson, you are expected to observe learners
and ask them about their motivation to learn. You must delve into students’
perspectives to understand their interests and what keeps them engaged in the
class. You are provided with tables and instructions to guide you in gathering
information from the learners. In order to process your feelings and thoughts
together with linking it to practice, series of questions and situations are provided for
you to answer. Enjoy!
Lesson 1: Target Learning Outcomes
At the end of this lesson, you will:
describe learners’ motivation to learn;
distinguish intrinsic from extrinsic motivation; and
make a dimension of learners’ motivations through students’
perspectives through writing a lesson plan;
ACTIVITY
You observe students in class and interview them about their motivation to
learn.
They are motivated
because of the
intrinsic rewards
that their teachers
gave them.
They are
motivated
because their
teacher is very
kind.
They are
motivated
because of their
goals in life.
They are
motivated
because of their
family.
They are motivated
because of the
extrinsic rewards
that their teachers
gave them.
Observation Guide
A. Observe a class. Spend some time observing their teaching
learning interactions. Focus your attention on the students
self-determined participation and eagerness to learn the
lesson. Interview random students after class on what
motivates them to learn. Fill-in the diagram bellow.

ANALYSIS Let’s Analyze
Based on the students’ responses, classify their motivators into the Four
Dimensions of Motivation
Extrinsic Motivators
Intrinsic Motivators
For example:
The teacher instruct her student Kyle to
participate in a quiz bee because win or
lose, Kyle will get a cash prize and plus
point for his grade in the first grading.
For example:
The teacher wants her students to
read a certain story in the book for them
to learn the good characteristics of main
character in the story. It is beneficial for
them because they will learn a lot better
on how to be a successful in the near
future.
My Top 5 Motivators
1. How similar or different are the motivation of learners you observed and
interview on your own motivation to learn?
Ans: Very similar in the sense that we share the same objectives.
2. What do you think are the reason behind these learners’ motivation? Why?
Ans: I think the reason behind those motivations of them is that their
passion and eagerness to achieve their desires.
3. Do you think that these students’ motivations can somehow be shaped by the
teacher or the school?
Ans: Yes, I believe so.
4. How can learners motivate themselves based on Self-Determination theory?
Ans: Learners can really motivate themselves basing on the Self-
Determination Theory. Why? Because a learner can acquire his self-
determination base on his or her competence, value and autonomy and
relatedness. Like for example, when a learner is competent enough to
accept the challenges or the task given by the teacher, then with that he
or she will be very motivated.
5. Based on the learners’ motivation, describe the four dimensions of motivation.
For me, I think those four dimensions of motivations helps the students to
boost their motivation, persist longer, produce higher quality effort, learn
more deeply, and perform better. It is a factor that do deeply strengthen
eagerness in pursuing motivation.
Competence
Autonomy
Value
Relatedness
What steps can
teachers take to help
students feel more
competent? How does
teaching style affect
students’ feelings of
competency?
How does teaching
style affect students’
perception of control
and autonomy? How
can programs
specifically targeting
at-risk students help
those students to
regain a feeling of
control over their
education?
How does the way a
school day is
structured increase or
decrease student
interest? What
strategies can
teachers use in the
classroom to bring
more interest and
value to the subject
matter? What types
of programs can help
at-risk students
better understand the
value of their
education?
How does the way a
school is organized
affect relationships
among students and
between students and
faculty? How can a
student body be
organized to create
stronger and more
beneficial social
bonds? How can the
design of a school help
or hurt the
relationships between
students and faculty?
What can teachers do
to foster more
effective relationships
with students?
ABSTRACTION Let’s Conceptualize
Here’s a quick review quiz to see how much you have learned about Self-
Determination theory and the Four Dimensions of Motivation. The questions are
designed to get you thinking about how the theory applies to your classroom
1. Teacher Ann always see to it that every achievement of her students will
be rewarded. She prepares stickers, fancy applauses and a lot of praises
to give whenever a student get a correct answer in class. Which concept

APPLICATION
As a Future Teacher
1. Describe how you are going to
motivate learners in your class.
By doing so, I will see to it that each
students are participating in every
aspects in the class. Meaning all of
them has functions. When it comes
to cleaning the room, each of them
has an assigned task. When it comes
to discussion in the class, I will
make sure that everyone participate,
so that they will feel that relatedness
or belongingness in the class.
2. Make a Lesson Plan that will
motivate your learners to learn your
lesson.
