Lending Institutions, Health Care, and Human Capital 1
The developing country I have chosen is Nigeria. I will be discussing whether funding
from international lending institutions is helping or hurting the social, economic and political
development of Nigeria. This paper will also address various ways a healthy population can
strengthen the economy of Nigeria. I will also be reviewing the way Nigerian leadership uses
foreign aid. “Nigeria needs knowledgeable and competent leaders who can govern equitably and
be committed to refocusing a troublesome, materialistic, greedy, and intolerant elite. That elite
needs a healthy dose of patriotism, especially the office-seeking class” (Rotberg, 2004).
Nigeria is so far in debt that it may never be able to be an economically thriving nation.
“The need of human capital is apparent because things can’t continue the way they are going and
