The Legalization of Marijuana
According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in their
article The Health Effects of Cannabis and Cannabinoids : The Current State of Evidence and
Recommendations for Research they stated “Many 19th-century practitioners ascribed medicinal
properties to cannabis after the drug found its way to Europe during a period of colonial
expansion into Africa and Asia (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
43). Marijuana use has been around for centuries and has even been used in ritual practices.
