Spanish return to east Texas to establish permanent settlement for
religion and politics to Caddo and other Indians. @ different

Wanted to establish a line of presidios across Texas. Massenet
against these military threats ideas. Wanted to use love to convert
Indians. Spain sided with Massenet, cause cheaper. Spain sent only
100 solders to protect from French. 1690 mission san Francisco de
las teas established by these 2. Party returned to Mexico and left
only 3 priests and 3 soldiers. Spain set out expedition to resupply
mission san Francisco and they found disarray and disaster.
