Leadership in Correlation to the Management Roles within a Company
Introduction
There are many challenges that come into play when a company seeks to put together a
leadership team. (1 Corinthians 12:12, ESV) informs Christians that: “For just as the body is one
and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is
with Christ.” Even the Bible stresses the fact that it takes numerous individuals at different levels
of position in order to build a successful Church. At that point is the reality that managers are
important to the success of a company; therefore, it takes a team of individuals with varying
degrees of ability to reach company goals and achieve desired results.
Managerial Skills
Acquiring certain skills can oftentimes be the qualifying factors of moving within a company.
Therefore, if an individual has the passion to climb the ladder of management than they must
acquire three important skill sets and they are: technical, human, and conceptual skills. First,
Technical skills are best described as: “… job-specific knowledge and expertise required to
perform a particular role within an organization” (Satterlee, 2013, p.12). Thus, a company would
not desire to place an individual who has average mathematics skills within a finance position. If
an individual has a working knowledge of their management field, then they will be more
effective in leading those that are following them. Consequently, employees will respect a
manager who has the appropriate knowledge. Next, is the ability of a manger to work with
people which is described as having “human skills.” (Satterlee, 2013, p.12) stated that: “Human
skills are a manager’s ability to interact and work well with others.” Therefore, a finance
manager can be proficient in his or her field, yet if they do not have the appropriate “human
skills” then they will inevitably fail in the area of unifying a team of employees. Lastly, is the
