Case Study: Traits & Skills Leadership
Synthesis
Many different leadership styles are evident in our diverse world. Successful leaders
“should be transformational leaders comprised of strengths, weaknesses and also characteristic
behaviors” (Balyer, 2012, p.582). The behavioral theory of leadership maintains a foundation of
actions by the leader, while the situational theory focuses on the situation.
The behavioral approach to leadership extends its focus on what a leader does and how
they act. “Studies in the realm of behavioral approaches generally focus on leadership behaviors,
leadership styles as behavioral patterns and their potential effects of groups, and according to
behavioral leadership theory, attitudes and behaviors of leaders towards their followers are
crucial for success.” (Göksoy, 2015, p. 111).
