1. Travis Kalanik requires leadership help in handling issues in his life and career that could have
been mitigated differently given the condition. Leadership has everything to do with the issues
that Kalanik is passing through at the moment. To achieve the goals of any organization,
leadership skills are required (Jaworski 5). A conducive working environment require to be built
on strong foundation. The conducive environment require to be based on the right kind of
leadership that helps in encouraging employees to be better and increasing the morale of the
employees (Jaworski 4). In an organization where employees keep on making complaints about
the organization, then the basic problem is not the organization but rather the leadership culture
cultivated in the organization.
Among the characteristics that are common in leadership that would help Kalanik is the ability to
communicate which is the primary skills in leadership. Some scholar even argue that the main
skill that leaders have is the ability to communicate effectively. Communicating is more of
sending messages and emails around the organization or in a team but rather, communication is
more of understanding. Notably, communication is a two way traffic that requires both parties to
understand each other critically. Leaders have the ability to listen actively rather than being silent
while the other party is speaking (Adam). Being listened to by the leader is significantly vital to
the other party. Even though the request will not be granted as the way a person wanted it to be

answered, they will be satisfied that the leader listened to them attentively and understood what
they required from them. Therefore, leadership skills would be helpful to Kalanik.
Additionally, some of the overlooked skills in leadership are empathy and emotional intelligence.
Frequently leaders are required to handle issues such as conflict that do not only require for the
case in both parties that are conflicting but also empathy (Jaworski 13). With the aim of avoiding
underlying mistakes, a leader will have the ability to handle conflicting issues with ease,
objectively as well as effectively. With frequent practice and teaching emotional skills is a trait
like any other than be taught. An empathic thinker will have the ability to feel what others are
feeling, therefore, the leader will have the ability to make a decisive decision and manage change
effectively.
The spirit of team building is also one of the characteristic in leadership that Kalanik can learn
