Leaders and Followers
The articles, “How to Choose a Leadership Pattern” and “In Praise of Followers” were
both very interesting and intriguing for me to learn more about being a leader. These articles
taught me a lot of new information that I had never really thought of in depth before. I now can
use information I have learned from these and apply them to future classes and even work
experiences.
Firstly, I will be focusing on the “How to Choose a Leadership Pattern” article. This
article had lot of useful information. One of the first key terms I learned was, “group dynamics”
and how it means that you allow the employees to have more of a say rather than the leader
having all the power. This sort of idea really puts managers in a bind between allowing the
employees to make the decision or himself having the power and making the decision due to the
fact it is his job. Managers must be aware that if they allow the group to assist in the decision
making process that the consequences are still all on the manager. The manager must take full
responsibility for any negative outcomes. At the same time if a decision turns out to be very
positive then the manager will look very good. It is important that a manager doesn’t let the
