Abstract
Over the past years, cyberattacks have been increasing rapidly across the globe. On daily
basis, news outlets have been reporting cases of cyberattacks that have targeted different
organizations, big and small institutions, and nation-states. The effect of these attacks is that they
have brought about a permanent and dramatic change in the information security threat
landscape. The regulators in the information security sector have not been left behind in
recognizing this threat and currently, every business, depending on where it operates has the task
of demonstrating its diligence towards dealing with these threats in the information security
landscape. As a result, countries such as US, China, and Russia and regions such as Latin
America and Africa have undertaken to come up with numerous legislations to tackle the issue of
cybersecurity.
Introduction
To many countries, the cyberattacks have become an existential threat. The continuous
attacks on the financial institutions, national security organs, and power generation facilities of
these countries has threatened the fidelity and compromised the integrity of numerous segments
of the industries in the country. In order to address these challenges, regulators all over the world
and their respective governments have joined hands to take meaningful action to introduce
legislations that prescribe standard approaches that the citizens and the organizations need to
take to combat the problem of cyberattacks. These legislations have led to the enactment of
several cybersecurity laws. The aim of this paper is to look at the laws of global cybersecurity in
regard to US, China, Russia, Africa, and Latin America.
The Problem of Global Cybersecurity

The term cybersecurity has been defined by the US National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) as the ability to protect or defend the cyberspace from cyberattacks.
Cyberspace has mutable traits which makes it difficult for it to have an objective definition. As a
key aspect of the internet, cyberspace has been attributed to be the component that has made the
internet unique as a borderless medium of communication. As a result of this borderless nature,
the cyberspace has made the internet become a global digital phenomenon. Cyberspace has
continued to experience constant growth which has made it difficult for countries to establish a
cybersecurity framework. However, as cyberattacks have become more sophisticated over the
past, and thus threatening to damage thousands of interconnected computers and servers, they
have threatened to compromise the cyberspace which is responsible for making sure the critical
