At Harris county civil district court 295th June 28, 2016 case style medical malprac ce and the
Judge Caroline E. Baker plain ‘ Dawn Lee Defendant Christopher James, MD. The voir dire started early
that morning and it did not end un l 4:00 pm that evening. The voir dire went longer than planned the
a/orneys both came to an agreement to resume tomorrow morning with the opening statements. While
I was si2ng in on the jury selec on I learned more than I expected. It was a total of sixty people and the
a/orneys had to narrow it down to twelve by asking ques on to see if anyone will be bias towards the
case, or had any connec on with a anyone apart of the case. The plain ‘ a/orney was able to ask
ques on 6rst than they release the people for lunch. When lunch was over it was the defendant turn to
ask ques ons. The jury also had to 6ll out forms asking personal ques ons which also help them to
narrow down the jury selec on. The defendant a/orney started his ques ons of by asking the people if
they will be able to set aside their emo on and compassion for the child and follow the law by only
making a decision by the evidence given. A7er the defendant a/orney finished asking his ques ons the
judge dismissed the people into the hall area. The judge and the two a/orneys discussed who was a for
sure no. They also called people back into the court room to clarify some of the answers to the
ques ons that the defendant and the plain ‘ a/orney’s asked earlier. Their where also people who
asked to approach the judge bench with reasons to be excused from the jury. Once everyone was done
getting clari6ca on and speaking to the judge with reasons not to serve on the jury. The a/orneys begin
to choose who they would want to stay. Than the lawyers went into discussion with their team. I was
able to sit in the chamber with the Judge and two other law students. She was very eager to tell us how
she got started into the law 6led as a defensive trial lawyer. One interes ng thing she was talking about
