There are 3 various sources of Laws in Malaysia, which is Written Law, Unwritten Law and
Islamic Law. Written Law is the most important source of law. It refers to the portion of
Malaysian law which is The Federal Constitution, State Constitutions, Legislation and
Subsidiary Legislation.
The Federal Constitution
A federal constitution is one which sets up a system of federalism within a country and
the supreme law of land. It provides for the establishment and the organisation of three
main branches of the Parliament which consists of the House of Representatives ( Dewan
Rakyat) and the Senate (Dewan Negara), the executive branch led by the Prime Minister
and his Cabinet Ministers, and the judicial branch headed by the Federal Court. Besides
laying down the powers of the Federal and State Governments, it also enshrines the basic
or fundamental rights of the individual.
State Constitution
The State Constitution is the same as Federal Constitution, except it is set by the states in
