Power and glory are two driving forces that change lives and push people to their limits. Every
situation has a cause and effect but the results can be shocking and or long lasting. This is what
would happen in the Colonial Spanish era, the hunger for control would change the lives of
countless people by mixing different ethnicities together and creating multicultural communities.
John Charles Chasteen touched on this idea when he stated “Nevertheless, out of a thousand
tiny negotiations taking place in people’s daily lives, always within the force field of hierarchy
and domination…Latin American societies grew around the hard edges of that domination…and
colonization became not only endurable but also embedded in people’s habits. Indigenous,
Africans and Europeans consorted and intermingled, fought and slept together. They
misunderstood and learned about, despised and sometimes adored each other.” This quote
