This week both excerpts were interesting and life changing. I don’t know if it’s because
I’m presenting this week or if they are truly phenomenal. “Living in Tongues” is an
excellent work of how finding an identity in a multicultural country is hard. Luc Sante
faced many hardships, and spent many hours deciding what he was. He came to the
conclusion that he from different places, and the best thing to do is embrace his social
background in every area. No one knows how to build an identity on their own, so they
must look for examples. When you are learning French at home and English at school,
how do you decide? You must seize it all to guarantee that you don’t exclude imperative
parts of your life. He tries to pull languages, traditions, and values from both cultures, so
that he doesn’t favor a new adopted culture. This would make an impact on his life
because mostly he would have to exclude his parents unless they followed in his footsteps.
This man faces culinary differences from the beginning. This is important, because he is
already trying to adjust to his new life, but at the same time he has to discover to be fond
of new American traditions and foods. As well his family struggles with the idea of
