In Lab 1 a large focus was to work on our observation skills and to, in a way, get used to the idea of
labs. We were questioned about how social people were walking to class, if people traveled in a group
or alone, if there were differences between genders of the walkers, and if groups were homogenous or
heterogeneous in terms of race and sex. We expected to see way more students walking alone to class,
maybe waving to a friend or two but not too social; I don’t really expect a difference between genders
but I do expect most groups to be females of the same race.
I am section 6 of the PYSC 101 class, we meet at 3:30 in GambrelI, but for this experiment was alone in
my observation, so I decided to go sit by the stair outside of Gambrell to people watch. For this
experiment I used participants that had no clue they were a part of the research while they were
walking to class, and I had a pencil and data collection sheet.
In total we collected data from 15 groups, groups of participants ranging from 1 person to 3 people. I did
not expect to see as many groups walking to class together that I did, yet for a majority, the groups were
females of the same race. Only 4 out of 15 groups walking to class had diversity in their races, and only 2
