Abstract
The purpose of Lab 1 was to measure the mass, volume, and density of various objects. The
objects measured were a phone, cards, and a metal cylinder. For this experiment a balance
scale (mass) was used on the object and a ruler (length) to find the centimeters in an object to
make the measurements. With the data collected from these two measurements, then
calculate the density and volume. All the data needs to be collected in a table using proper
equations and labels. The densest object was the metal cylinder and the least dense is the
cards. The phone had the most mass and the cards had the least mass.
Background
The equation used to find the rectangular volume (physical space an object occupies) is V = lwh.
The equation for cylindrical volume is V = 𝑙𝜋(𝑑
2) The calculation for density (how much mass
an object has for volume) is the equation density = m/v.
