Lab 1: Introduction To The Nature Of Science
This lab was designed to teach students about the scientific method as well as “
the nature of science”, to teach that hypothesis can be drawn based on past
experiences and that even though you may be confused or not understand a concept
does not necessarily mean that it is incorrect or invalid, just as it does not make it
correct or valid. We must rely on our observations, that can be reproduced, conduct
scientific experiments and use models within those to predict the outcome.
During this lab we observed a mystery tube, with a string through the center, with
a round black metal washer on each end of the string. Our goal was to observe how the
string looked, and sounded going through the center of the pvc tube and identify what
we believed it to look like inside (which we could not see). We were given a variety of
