In the group discussion, I noticed that there were a lot of comments about how we need to
eliminate judgment. I agree that there is a lot of judgement in society that should be eliminated.
However, I don’t think that all judgement isn’t bad. We don’t have time to get to know everyone
on a personal level so we must make certain judgements of character for various reasons. For
example, when hiring employees one must quickly judge another’s abilities and intelligence so
that they can select the best employee for the job. The issue is that people may make these
decisions based off of factors out of people’s control. Differences such as race and gender do
not affect a person’s ability to complete a job. Factors such as schooling and past experiences
do though.
When it comes to ethics and morals there is no one-size-fits-all answer. There are over 7 billion
people on Earth, each with a different perspective. We have to decide for ourselves where that
line is. The reason that we have not yet achieved true equality is that most people try to
establish right and wrongs. Ethics are not a matter of right or wrong. A narrow perspective is
required to establish what is right and what is wrong. This perspective will only benefit a portion
of the population. In order to achieve equality, we cannot focus on what is morally right and
wrong. Instead, we need to focus on adhering to principles that better our society as a whole.
Favoritism leads to conflict and unfair advantages. We must learn how to preserve our
individualism and creativity while also fostering equality. Perhaps this is an impossible goal but it
is something that we can always work towards.
Ironically, this is just my perspective on the issue of equality. I’ve formulated this opinion based
on my past experiences and decisions. This could be hogwash and the polar opposite of what
our society needs in order to progress in the right direction. But the only way we can hope to
