Why did KEDA decide to embark on an ERP implementation project?
KEDA decided to embark on an ERP implementation project because there was a lack of
integration of vital business process within the company. This made it difficult for
employees to make important strategic decisions that would allow the company to be
successful. By implementing ERP KEDA gained competitive advantage in an industry
with strong competition. There was also pressure from Chinese government agencies that
pressured local companies such as KEDA to be competitors globally. A big reason why
ERP was implemented was because KEDA experienced sub-optimal inventory
management and profitability issues. Also, the current Manufacturing Resource Planning
system did not support multi-plant operation which hindered growth and thereby required
a new system that would increase operation.

The major processes of implementing an off-the-shelf ERP system include: Determining
the core needs of the system, followed by choosing an ERP vendor which was the most
suitable for the needs of the company. Next they would need to gather the implementation
team to begin system implementation. This means gathering all stakeholders including the
IT officers and consultants to ensure that they were ready for system testing. The final
major processes include system testing, user training, and system roll-out.
