In a world already plagued with economic and social disturbances, Lebanon most certainly tops
the list of nations that has drastically been affected by local and regional disturbances. The
confluence of these large negative shocks led to the implosion of the economy. As a matter of fact,
GDP is estimated to have contracted by 25% in 2021, with an additional 10-15% decline forecast
for 2022. Today, I will be explaining the main problems of the economic crisis in Lebanon, while
also presenting some solutions that might impede this economic tragedy. As a Lebanese citizen
myself, I have experienced first handedly all of the difficulties that are to be discussed, while also
being politically well- acquainted with regional and international stances concerning our situation.
My speech will consist of 3 main problems and some potential solutions to these problems.
Political corruption, international intervention, and a frail banking system are all main pillars
leading to this national turmoil, and we have to find a solution as soon as possible!
Firstly, one of the major causes of the Lebanese economic crisis is the ruling of the corrupt elite
for the past 30 years. This comes with the fact that these rulers have never left out any chance for
recovery or economic progression.
