UISS150D JUDGMENT CALL 4:
WHO CAN USE MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BATHROOMS?
After reading about S.’s story, I feel like it’s tough to be in her shoes, especially when not
knowing what bathroom to use as a transgender. Both men and women objected to not feeling
comfortable having S. use the same bathroom, because women saw S. as a male figure and men
perceived S. might feel attracted to them. Yet no one considers S.’s feels, I’m sure transgenders
feel just as afraid as everyone else does. People should understand that transgenders go to the
bathroom for the same reason everyone else does. I feel that society and maybe even culture
decides what’s appropriate and inappropriate for each sex and gender. It’s kind of drilled into
individuals growing up. I personally believe that no one has the right to define who a person is or
what she or he can and cannot do. A person should be able to define themselves and feel
comfortable and accepted. Why should someone else have a right to define who a person is?
Everyone should have all the rights and freedom to do as they like, individuals are capable to
decide for themselves. They don’t need others to take part in it and tell them what they can or
